Metro Police's union not only opposes the initiative to legalize marijuana but is asking the umbrella police lobbying organization that endorsed the ballot question to reconsider its action, a union leader said today."It is my intention to ask (the Nevada Conference of Police and Sheriffs) board to reconvene and revisit the issues," said Detective David Kallas, executive director of the Police Protective Association, union for about 2,100 Metro police and corrections officers. "We are adamantly opposed to legalization of marijuana."
NCOPS, a statewide police organization, announced Tuesday its board of directors voted 9-0 to support the proposed constitutional change that would decriminalize possession of up to 3 ounces of marijuana.Andy Anderson, NCOPS president and former head of the Police Protective Association, said the initiative will allow police to focus on violent crimes instead of spending hours on paperwork booking someone into jail on a marijuana possession charge. The board is made up of two members from the PPA, two from the Henderson Police union, two from the state law enforcement officers' union and one each from the North Las Vegas Police and school police unions along with Anderson.Anderson said the board can call for another meeting, but added the cops are missing the point of the initiative."We're not endorsing smoking marijuana, but when you have a majority of people in the polls (saying decriminalize marijuana) you have to get your head out of the sand and decide how to regulate it," Anderson said. "I didn't say I want my grandkids or my kids to use marijuana. Do you think it is hard for kids to get marijuana now? I'm saying let's regulate it and make it more difficult."But local cops have come out against the initiative and the endorsement, saying 3 ounces of marijuana goes beyond personal use and that it would create a new set of policing problems. Nevada changed its marijuana laws last year, making it a misdemeanor for possession of less than 1 ounce instead of a felony."One ounce is a lot for personal use; 3 ounces is ridiculous," Undersheriff Richard Winget said. "You can make 120 marijuana cigarettes with 3 ounces. That's not for individual use; that amount is for dealing."Kallas, who cut short his vacation and returned to Las Vegas after being told of NCOPS' endorsement, said he has spoken with the heads of the North Las Vegas and Henderson police unions and neither organization supports the marijuana proposal.Winget said the police would do whatever possible to oppose the ballot question."We are organizing with all local law enforcement to develop our plan," he said.Anderson said the state has already passed laws making possession of less than an ounce not only a misdemeanor, but a crime that ends with a citation issued not an arrest."There is a changing attitude in society," he said. Life is interesting and fun in the country. I can't handle living in a congested area. Both my husband and I spent most of our lives on a farm and cities are nice to visit but give me the country to live in. I'm calling it a day. I just looked and MSNBC transcripts aren't up yet but I'll get them posted tomorrow.

My assisting consisted of sitting on my horse's head while the vet did the nasty work. Once they are sedated and down you don't want them to jump up in the middle of the whole thing so that was my job.

there IS a 'breathalizer' on the way soon
as far as i know its not out of the testing phase by some big police depts somewhere... but after a court challange i think it may start showing up faster...--------------------------------------------key is that they don't detect metabolites, detects THC - so test is true influence based test for driving/flying etc. ... not last month use..
------------------------------
from:
http://www.lifepointinc.com/products.htm
...
A single specimen (from one person) is tested for all molecules simultaneously. The disposable STM consists of a mouthpiece, tubing and a reagent cassette and provides the needed tests in a panel format. This allows the user to obtain all the required information (up to ten test results) simultaneously, efficiently and cost effectively. The STM is available in a variety of formats to provide the various markets with the specific test panels they may require. The first STM provides six tests to ascertain the presence of alcohol snd the National Institute on Drug Abuse required five drugs of abuse. The second STM panel will expand the first product to additionally include tests for prescription drug overdose levels for a total of 10 tests being run simultaneously. The entire test procedure, specimen collection to result printout, takes less than five minutes. The saliva is collected via aspiration with a device similar to those used in a dental office. The collection process itself takes less than one minute=======================================================
The key selling features designed into the IMPACT Test System are: Rapid test results (approximately 5 minutes) Non-invasive sample collection Transportable, inexpensive instrument Hard copy results Simultaneous Chemistry/Immunoassay testing Completely Automated Process No sample handling Eliminates sample adulteration problems On-the-spot results The benefits of these design features include:The "real time" availability of results provide for immediate management of the individual being tested. The test can be performed by non-technical personnel (CLIA waivable). No needle or finger sticks are required. Invasion of privacy issues as in urine sample collection are eliminated. The test can be performed with laboratory quality results in remote locations. The process is completely automated and results are documented for legal defensibility. The product allows for the simultaneous detection of both ethanol and drugs. Test values reflect the biological accuracy of blood, and provide "under the influence" results for drugs and alcohol. Saliva drug test can reveal the presence of pharmacologically active drug in an individual at the time of testing ------------------------------

We sold our horse trailer when the horses were moved to another part of the state. We have a van and dog crate. He is a good rottie but he is a definite anti drug dog. He growls when I try to give him his heart worm pill but that's the only time so he doesn't get any heart worm medicine. When you have around a dozen horses you learn to worm and vaccinate. My one Vet even gave me a powerful drug I had to put in one horses jugular vein because the Vet couldn't get away from the office and he told me how and I did and the mare lived. She had a bad case of colic which is often fatal.I've assisted during the castration of my one stallion I helped birth a few little baby horses called foals. I have the full birth of my one horse on video. The mare allowed me to be in the stall with her and I taped the whole thing. My students loved watching the tape and the Vets did too. They make house calls whe necessary.

Something like this. We aren't going to go into people's homes and arrest them if they want to sit around and smoke an ounce of pot. That's a lot to smoke but what if they want to smoke 3 ounces? Where does it end?

Vets
Do "big animal" vets still make house calls? Some of my favorite books are James Herriot's anecdotal accounts of vet life in pre WWII Yorkshire. Lovely books.I don't think I could give even a horse or a dog an injection. I think everyone has at least one phobia, mine is hypodermics. I guess I will never be able to experience the thrill of mainlining cheap methanphetamine. LoL.By the way, my philosophy regarding strange, possibly rabid wild animals is just don't take any chances. I'm not one of those gung ho, shoot it because it's alive type people, but our animals are like family. You know?

I was just thinking that if he hangs around we might need to shoot him. My dog is vaccinated for rabies but needs a booster. I don't know how we will be able to get him to the vet because he is so big now but we will. I have aways given my own shots to dogs and horses but not rabies. They won't give out the rabies vaccine like other vaccines.

rabies
Earlier this summer there was this skunk running around our yard actually chasing our dogs. It wasn't trying to spray them, it was trying to bite them. I had to shoot it. Fortunately, the dogs have all been vacinated. It was pretty funny in a way, watching this skunk lunging at the dogs. The dogs really didn't know what to make of it. Normally they just kill them and have to stay outside for a few days.

The other guys
Tucker Carlson is the bow tie wearer, James Carville is the southerner. I like Carlson alot more than that Novak. Imagine, calling poor people losers. Sometimes I like Crossfire, but most of the time it's bothersome to watch. There is no middle ground for any of those people. Always Left Right. I dont know if the "daily show" has any fans here besides me (I would reccomend it to everyone), but they do a spoof of Right vs. Left "debate" shows called Even Steven where the two guys just sort of scream the exact opposite of what the other is saying back and forth to each other. "Yes!"
"No!"
It's funny because it's true.

That must have been great. Willie Nelson is an American Icon. He's one of a kind. On the Crossfire debate. It leaned real hard against us. They didn't have the other guys on who are cool. I can't think of their names but one is bald and speaks with a southern accent and the other wears weird bow ties.

David Kallas is the liar from a previous story
Metro Police Detective David Kallas, executive director of the Las Vegas Police Protective Association, had just returned from a trip out of town and didn't know about the vote. He said he is against the initiative because it does not address the "larger problem" problem of drug trafficking."Both personally and professionally, while you've eased the burden of the user, you haven't assisted law enforcement with the overall problem of drug trafficking," he said. "The people who purchase it still have to purchase it somewhere."The ONLY defense the pro-jail side has are lies.

It's at 88% to 12% now for the good guys. I switched off the tv as soon as the debate ended, anyone know if they mentioned the poll results on the show? I wonder if sites like C-News really effect the results of these online polls? Also, the little bar at the bottom of the screen mentioned something about someone auctioning a bong and giving the proceeds to firefighters. Both times I missed the very start of the little headline. Anyone know who's auctioning off the bong?

No one has developed an on the spot "breathalyzer" type device for pot yet. I was reading something about something in the works from someone but I can't remember exactly what ...Anyway I think the driving under the influence thing with pot is what really scares a lot of people because they know that you can't detect when a person is high or not. People just refuse to believe that you can drive ok when your high and when you are too high to drive you know it and are too paranoid to drive anyway. :)I hear and read these remarks from the anti's to the effect of "I don't want someone high on the same road as me!"OPEN YOUR EYES AND SMELL THE SENSIMELIA WE ARE ALREADY THERE!

They just want to keep it illegal because they dont want to have to do their job of "Serve and Protect". They just want to find dope dealers and send em' off to prison or give them a fine. Im sure the fine's that the court brings in are mostly for Marijuana. And Drunk Driving. Speaking of Driving under the Influence. How is a Cop going to know when a person is driving stoned. I can see if he and his buddies are tokin up and get pulled over, but say if I were to leave my hotel room to get some munchie food and were to get pulled over, they cant give you a breathalizer test for Pot, Can they? If you put in Eye drops they wont be able to say "your eyes are red"... you just have to cover up your breath.Dime
