LOS ANGELES A judge criticized for trying to perform a wedding for one of the Menendez brothers, smoking in chambers and displaying a fake marijuana plant in her courtroom has been cleared by a state panel.
But the report by the panel of special masters was only the first hurdle for Superior Court Judge Nancy Brown, who still faces possible disciplinary action by the 11-member California Commission on Judicial Performance. The special masters' report, released Tuesday, is advisory to the commission and recommends no discipline. On a separate issue, the masters were split over whether Brown committed misconduct by banning a court administrator from her courtroom for more than four years. Two of the masters, Justice Gilbert Nares of the 4th District Court of Appeal in San Diego and Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge James H. Chang, said it was willful misconduct and caused problems in assigning cases and keeping the courtroom utilized. Click the above link to read the whole article!
