Marijuana is Everybody's Problem!

Source: LA Times
Significant advancements in work by substance abuse counselors, therapists, parents and schools was hurt and trivialized by an irresponsible front-page article in the Los Angeles times.
The March 18 article, "Pot Has Uses as Medicine, U.S. Panel Says," misquoted the U.S. Institute of Medicine by stating "...a panel of experts found that marijuana is not addictive, and said there is no clear evidence that smoking it leads to consumption of heroin, cocaine or other narcotics." This was an irresponsible misinterpretation of the Institute's original press release of March 17, the source of the Times article. The Times article sent a dangerous message to the public: Pot is okay. Click the above link to read the whole article!

Please don't censor!
Dear FOM,I considered sending this to you as a private e-mail, but I thought everyone should have a chance to read it.Please DON'T censor information that is posted to this page, at least not based on content. If the source is disreputable, that might be another matter. My earlier comment was simply meant as guidance and warning to the uninitiated. Reading Dick Cowan's marijuananews.com page over the last 18 months has taught me a lot about critical thinking and being skeptical of bad journalism. I just wanted to pass some of that on to anyone who cares about sifting a little truth from the giant mass of lies on this subject. As far as having a webpage, St. Louis NORML's page can be found at http://mo-norml.org It has links to this page, and to many other good cannabis and activist resources. Check it out! Thanks again, FOM. Keep up the good work.Ben CohnPresidentSt. Louis NORML

For moto 20!
Hello moto20,I was thinking about your post and I'm still not sure what you meant, but if you mean me I sure don't make any money from anything. This is all volunteer! Just in case you think this is for profit, because it's isn't. On my regular web site I have no way of making money either. That way I can't be swayed to any particular way of thinking and I can keep on finding news! I just like news!Peace, FoM!

Consider the source
Thanks Mr. Cohn! With this news site I just bring the news that is current and read it and wonder what will be next. I am for the reform of marijuana laws or I wouldn't being doing this. I think that decriminalization is long over do and thank you for your comment!Peace, FoM!Sometimes I wonder if I should post a controversial article like this one but if I didn't then I would be censoring the news and that would be wrong.PS: Do you have a web site? I'll really like to read it if you do!

Consider the source
Any time you encounter such an open diatribe against marijuana, just look at who wrote it. Nine out of ten times it will be a government bureaucrat, "substance abuse" counselor, or anti-drug group (such as PDFA, PRC, CASA, etc., etc. ad nauseum)These people DEPEND on marijuana being illegal and despised in our society in order to keep their jobs and funding. How can anyone take their opinion on this seriously? They're not exactly unbiased, or lacking a conflict in interest.Groups like NORML, of which I am a part, are all volunteer, and would not stand to make a penny from marijuana being legalized. Our motives are pure.Always, always, always - WATCH WHERE THE MONEY IS GOING. Ben CohnPresidentSt. Louis NORML

same old lies
It seem to me that after 53 years of reading i can tell what i read, and that is that pot is less harmfull then tobacco or booze, and does not have the adictive potential of even caffine, Ihave no idea what you read but I bet that it would make no diff. if god himself came down from above and said that pot was ok, You make your liveing off of the treatment bandwagon and have no recourse but to protect your income. But don't blame the facts , the lies have been spread for over 60 years by people who have other reasons for wanting to control what drugs are legal and those reasons are money. peace mpta20
