TALLAHASSEE, FLOn April 7, 1999, the Florida state Supreme Court heard arguments that will determine the fate of one man, and set the future for thousands of others.
George Sowell, 61, was arrested in 1995 for growing 65 marijuana plants on his rural property in Washington County, FL. At trial he stipulated to growing marijuana to stave off the blinding effects of glaucoma and to combat the debilitating nausea caused by immune-suppressing drugs used to maintain his kidney transplant.Sowell's doctors supported his medical use of marijuana and provided graphic evidence of the prohibited herb's therapeutic benefits. Sowell simply told the court, "Without marijuana I would have starved to death."http://www.hightimes.com/ht/new/9905/mednecessity.html
