cannabisnews.com: No Time to Party! No Time to Party! Posted by FoM on May 04, 1999 at 06:38:48 PT Source: Savannah Now BY DISPERSING a party of young people last weekend without making arrests for drug possession, local law enforcement officials set a precedent they will find hard to break -- and one they may come to regret. Early Sunday morning, the Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team and the Savannah Police Department cleared out a downtown party at the old Prince Hall Masonic Lodge on East Broad Street. Nearly 850 people, many of them high school students 18 or younger, were crammed into a building designed to hold 250.After the participants left, officers found about $650 worth of drugs -- a small amount considering the number of people involved -- including five bags of marijuana, a modest amount of cocaine, LSD and the designer drugs Ecstasy and Special K.No arrests were made at the party, known as a Rave. Police said they were trying to send a message to those involved that such activities will not be tolerated and to alert parents to the potential drug problem associated with Raves, which attract mostly teen-agers. The gatherings are popular entertainment for predominantly white, middle-class young people.Click the above link for the full story!
