San Francisco Police responding to a report of a shed fire behind a Sunset District home discovered a sophisticated Marijuana-growing operation and a small arsenal of assault weapons.
Lt. Kitt Crenshaw of the police narcotics unit, said the fire at 1:45 a.m. Monday was thought to be at the rear of 2442 42nd Ave. Police found a shed that housed a gas-powered electrical generator, but no fire. Two gas lines led into the house. Police checked the residence. No one was home, and no fire was found, but police spotted what appeared to be Marijuana plants. Inside, Crenshaw said, they found 140 Marijuana plants growing in two bedrooms and at the rear of the garage. Police also found some assault weapons, Crenshaw said. They found four AR-type rifles, one equipped with a sniper's scope, two shotguns, a machine pistol, a .357 magnum revolver and more than 400 rounds of ammunition. Police have identified two suspects and said the guns and illegal cultivation appear to be gang-related.
