Milion Marijuana March, New York!
Source: New York Daily News
There was a clash of values in Washington Square Park yesterday as hundreds of families with strollers and picnic blankets gathered to reclaim the park from hundreds of pot-smoking demonstrators staging their annual pro-marijuana rally.
Kept at the periphery of the Greenwich Village park, young men and women wearing wreaths of marijuana leaves brandished anti-Mayor Giuliani signs, banged on drums and openly smoked pungent "blunts" as leaders of the Million Marijuana March called for legalization of the weed."This is a political event, and we're here to change the laws," said Doug Greene, 32, a member of Cures Not Wars, a group formed to legalize marijuana for medical purposes.Click the above link for the full article!

Press Coverage (or lack thereof)
Late last night I found an article on the New York MMM but nothing else. Thank goodness for all the people who have written about their personal experiences for all of us to read!Next year I'm sure the media attention will be there. We all learn from mistakes and omissions and make it better the next time! Thanks for your comments!FoM!

Press Coverage (or lack thereof)
For an event with 1,000-4,000 attendees, the SF MMM received surprisingly little media attention. NOTHING on sfate.com AFAIK, and the only pre-event mention I've seen was a small clip in the Bay Guardian's events listing for "Jay Day". I think next year we'll need to notify the media that there is a major demonstration going on; maybe a few of the organizations at the event can put together a press release?Doctor Dave

What families with strollers?
Dr. Dave,What surprises me is that I was only able to find 2 newspaper articles on the MMM. This one and one from Georgia. Why wasn't press coverage involved as a necessary part of this event? What major organization was responsible to make sure of good press coverage, I wonder?Peace, FoM!

I spoke to a friend who attended the NYC MMM, and he didn't see any of that. Could it be that the press is trying to trivialize the marijuana movement momentum? Nah.
