Medical Marijuana Research in the Nineties!

Since 1990, The Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) has disbursed over a quarter of a million dollars to worthy research projects. Medical marijuana has been a part of MAPS' research efforts.
For the last year, the FDA has refused to review any medical marijuana research protocol unless the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) has already agreed to provide marijuana to the study. NIDA in turn has had its own policy of not providing marijuana to any study unless it is first approved and funded by the NIH. Since NIDA has a monopoly on the supply of marijuana acceptable to FDA for use in research protocols, these policies have prevented privately funded studies from being reviewed by the FDA. During a meeting with several FDA officials today (March 18, 1999), Rick Doblin of MAPS obtained the assurance that protocols will henceforth be evaluated and critiqued by the FDA prior to securing a supply of marijuana for research from NIDA. This new development will expedite research into the medical utility of marijuana. In other medical marijuana news, the long-awaited study by the Institute of Medicine has been released. This report, which was commissioned by the White House and Drug Czar Barry McCaffrey in the wake of Prop 215, verifies that marijuana does have medical benefit, and argues that it should be made available to patients who could benefit from its use now. This report can be reached through a new website sponsored by Americans For Medical Rights. http://medmjscience.org/http://www.maps.org/mmj/index.html

FoM...It's really too bad we have such restrictions on psychedelic compounds. So much could be gained, if we only had the prescience, and the wisdom. Our system is based upon fear. Fear of the unknown, fear of the realization we are only a small fragment of the great cosmos. Psychedelics allow us to see with clarity this obvious truth. They show us the mathematical, and geometrical arrangement of all matter. They give us a glimpse into the sheer genius of God. That is what scares most people. It is just too much to handle. Even I have been overwhelmed by the enormity of it all. Absolute brilliance. That is indeed, humbling. So, the normal bloke can't assimilate such voluminous information. It's just too much for our organic brains to take. That is why these marvelous compounds are restricted- for now.The most amazing experience I've had, was combining MDMA with LSD. Whew, what a peek into physics, and universal meaning! There's something really fabulous going on, and we keep trying to hide from it. Funny thing that is. Sad too. We have such great potential to do so much good, and we waste our time on such trivial, and frivolous things. However, I feel we will make it. We will come to understand our place in this fantastic cosmic dance.Oh, the web address is www.marijuana-pharmacy.comI'll be working on it in the next few weeks.Keep up the fine work. You are being smiled upon.Cheers,Greg

Hello Dr. Ganj!Interesting web site. I've spent so much of my time centering on changing the laws on marijuana that I haven't honestly given much thought to psychedelic drugs. The web site brought to mind a friend I had back in the 60s that did LSD under proper circumstances and had a wonderful time. She wrote me a letter from Berkley where she had left home to go to school. Her letter was really something. She said that she was counciled for 2 weeks plus others that were going to trip too, so that the group was prepared to handle a many hour trip. They had a trained Psycholgist ( hope that spelled right) that was there to help them if the trip went off in the wrong direction. It was legal too! We sure have progressed in the wrong direction haven't we? Peace, FoM!
