Medical Marijuana The Jury's Still Out!

Why is the jury still out?

Although research on the potential medical benefits of marijuana is far from conclusive, American voters are demonstrating increasing support for legalizing the drug for medical purposes. In November 1998, voters approved medical marijuana initiatives by wide margins in Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Oregon and Washington. California passed a similar measure in 1996.
Such initiatives face strong government opposition and some have been defeated. But the issue will likely appear on future ballots.A study released from the Institute of Medicine (IOM) on March 17, 1999, reported that marijuana has potential therapeutic value for certain conditions and deserves further study in clinical trials. IOM researchers examined all relevant scientific evidence and concluded that marijuana holds particular promise for alleviating nausea and vomiting in people undergoing chemotherapy and for improving severe weight loss (wasting) caused by AIDS. pot
i love marijuana a lot. it is the best. i wrote an ode to marijuana when i was high but i forgot to write it down. god put us all on this earth and i bet there was cannabis growing in the garden of eden. smoking pot is a deeply spiritual experience. not that i am religious, but marijuana is a gift. if i could, i would marry marijuana. the female kind. cos i am a guy. and not a fag. not that fags aren't allowed to smoke dope. dope is good.

Brubaker
Wow I just read the name Brubaker in the Mayo article. he is a neighbor of mine. I think I will be very political and go over and talk with him.I thought that he was more enlightened than this. The statements they make are outrageous, like we need marujuana to be superior to the drugs we have. Yes the reason is the other drugs cost a lot more.CheersTom

MAYO Health News
You are right Rainbow!People only see what they want to see! Money clouds many people's minds. We don't need research we need for people to be given the personal liberty to choose which medicine they feel helps them particularly when side effects aren't great and nothing compares to toxic drugs they want us to take. I know. I have liver damage from prescription drugs. Peace, FoM!

MAYO Health News
I read this article in the Mayo Health News site on the web. I commented to the publisher that I was shocked to see this by the Mayo for a few reasons including;1. Mayo condones the use of drugs that can ruin one's Liver but not one that can help some (ZOCOR).Mayo is definitely influenced by state, local and federal goverment. (ed. Neat paradox here since they also control much of downtown Rochester MN and are stretching influence to many communities.)Mayo doctors were a part of the AMA organization who condoned cigarette smoking. In fact it was only 9 years or so ago that you could find designated smoking rooms at Mayo sponsored hospitals in Rochester. They allow cigarette smoking right outside building entrances up to a year or so ago.I was also amazed at the poor quality of scientific writing. They tended to discounted smoking marijuana because the pill form was non effective. They also site that a few ancedotal reports reported positive results. Of course they forget that ancedotal reports helped many eastern cultures use herbal medicine quite effectively. They did mention though that more research is needed.Mayo really demonstrated their ultra conservativism.CheersRainbow
