Smokin' in the Glades!

On Friday, April 9, I traveled to the Seminole reservation in the heart of the Florida Everglades to the second Journey To The Glades Hemp Festival. Equipped with the HIGH TIMES banner, T-shirts, the latest issue, and sunscreen, I was ready for a full day in the sun in the middle of the legendary swamp.
At first, I was hesitant when told I would be right off Alligator Alley (I-75), but fortunately, I didn't see any gators- but then again, I was too ripped to notice. There was lots to see and do-and buy. Hempfactory had the most hemp merchandise. Ira Schneider, the owner of Hempfactory and the organizer of the Hemp Village, put together an amazing set-up featuring companies like Headcase, Hempy's, Virgin Body Care, Cultivation, Manastash, Chameleon Glass pipes, Hempire papers and 100% additive-free cigarettes. Lots of readers stopped by our HIGH TIMES booth to check out the merchandise and pick up a new issue.Musically, the only highlight was Elvy Musickka, who performed pro-pot protest songs. As for the rest of the bands on the bill, the less said the better. One example: Eddie Money as a headline!?The Fest also offered rock climbing, tattoo artists, piercing, and massages, but in the Florida heat (a humid 90 degrees), lots of Fest-ites simply chilled in the shade. At 4:20 you could smell the sweet buds all around. I was glad to help spread the vibe. The festival still has a way to go-there were about 3,000 attendees in a spade that could hold many more-but I am sure that the event could be a major player.Despite my initial fear of the Glades' gators, I enjoyed my time there and would definitely suggest that all Southeast stoners make it to the next Glades Hemp Fest.
