A letter from the editor...These are dark times for those who love freedom. The tragic terrorist attacks of September 11 have allowed federal officials to quickly and easily implement anti-freedom laws that would otherwise have been politically impossible.I believe that it is now more important that ever for our pro-cannabis, pro-freedom message to reach the world, to mobilize our movement and ensure that we continue in our quest to "overgrow the government."
The cannabis movement continues to grow exponentially, as more and more people recognize the truth about prohibition and spread the good news that cannabis can help heal our bodies, our spirits and our planet. The cannabis cause has become a potent cultural force, with momentum and ever-increasing numbers of passionate devotees joining our cause. In our fiery passion, stubborn devotion, peaceful protest and willingness to withstand persecution for our beliefs, members of the cannabis movement could be compared to early Christians. It is clear that there is enormous potential for the cannabis movement to affect far greater social change than the simple changing of a few laws. Those within the movement know the amazing power of cannabis to treat a great many serious ailments, allowing the sick to rise up from their beds and the lame to walk. We also know that cannabis can help heal the earth, by drawing toxins out of the soil and air, as well as providing clean fuels, nutritious food, exquisite oils, supple fabrics, recyclable plastics and good medicine – most of what we need to exist as happy, healthy humans on this planet. We know that cannabis can help lead us to enlightenment, that there is something special and sacred in this plant that can give inspiration and insight into ourselves and others, enhancing our appreciation and pleasure in the world around us.Accepting cannabis can give our societies an escape from the negative-feedback loops in which they have become enmeshed. The cannabis movement has the potential to trigger a global quantum shift, propelling us all into a better, more positive future.Cannabis represents a better way. We invite the world to join us.Source: Cannabis CultureAuthor: Dana Larsen, Editor, Cannabis CulturePublished: December 28, 2001Copyright: 2001 Cannabis CultureContact: ccmag cannabisculture.comWebsite: http://www.cannabisculture.com/Related Articles:Travel and Pot Security in the New World Order http://cannabisnews.com/news/thread10966.shtmlB.C. Right On Herbdoc215
...your sizzling commentary is outstanding!!!....you are an inspiration..........I think that the new year,,should be a year in which everyone who is against Marijuana prohibition,,and the absurd drug war,and the grotesque, draconian laws,,and the crooked Evil Empire that insults freedom, and tramples the Constitution, should begin to fight!......This would be a good year for all of us to get more involved and outspoken...No more of this mellow, milquetoast hope shit!...no more Mr Niceguy,,,,no more counting on other people to speak out for change......If nothing else,,If you are a person who cant get too involved because of family/job concerns,,then get involved by making a donation to NORML,,or MAP,,or any of the numerous other groups who are working for freedom........or,,if you're like me,and are somewhat financially challenged ,,then write a letter,,,talk to friends and family,,,work to expose the drug-pig talaban cult of oppression and repression. ...do something more than you did last year,,,,,do something,......Heed the words of Herbdoc215;"At what point will the blinders
come off and people realize that just because their door hasn't been kicked in yet that it won't? If not now, when? If not you, who?".....Things are not looking very good..We are fighting a monster, that has control of the media,,and things are seeming to get worse by the day...Yes,,there are glints of hope here and there,,but if you take a look at the big picture, hope is beginning to look more and more like an illusion...We are at a point where one takes a risk by even speaking critically of the regime.......in saying all this,,I kinda get a feeling that reminds me of John Belushi,in Animal House,,where he give this big inspirational speech about getting back at the jock fraternitys,,,he tries to rally everyone to join him,,and he says,,"C'mon,,,Let's Go get 'em!",,and everyone just sits there. . . . . ...The war on drugs is just one small element of a much larger problem......This should be the year of the War For Freedom!..they got the guns,,but we got the numbers......dddd....Freedom Warrior

You have NO IDEA how much BS the lid is closed on!
I have heard of this case before, and Panzer is certainly one of the 'Good' guys in Californis lawyers now; and believe me that list is very short and getting shorter. Since the middle of 2000 the local, state and federal gov't has amazed me with their newfound ability at media control and spin, I have seen stories such as me getting busted with over 3000 plants in one year and never getting handcuffed because we had >800 patients and signed contracts giving the stuff away pratically, BUT cops could raid with no warrent or probable cause and TOTAL media blackout even when we called them to report, stories I saw killed by cops number in the hundreds already shot or wrote just killed no explanation given. THEN the rest of America figures if some idiot doesn't tell them about it on TV then it's BS? I have one friend in jail in Humboldt who HAD 36 plants and TWO scripts from TWO MD's to smoke and grow, cops kicked his door with no warrent, and he's been in jail since July (Hell I'm even dogsitting for him up here in Canada), 36 Plants indoors! He was "offered" 5 years from weasel DA and sits in jail under stupidly high bond waiting for some far-off date, he's paid several thousand dollars to several attorney's to NO AVAIL and NO OTHER CHARGES against him. When a system of coruption leads to no recourse to appeal then that system can be said to be entirely an oligarchy- which is what we have in Northern California. These cops will stop at nothing to keep their little money making system in place and nothing threatens that more than medical cannabis. How many more lives will America allowed to be ground into dust before somebody does something? It's like the old "They came for the Jews story, and like that story they will eventually have every last one us in jail or "re-education" camps(better known as rehabs in new doublespeak) before the years out, so if you won't fight now while it cost so little, what's your hope of ever cutting a hole in the "re-education" camp fence before some pig shoots you down like Randy Weavers wife??? At what point will the blinders come off and people realize that just because their door hasn't been kicked in yet that it won't? If not now, when? If not you, who? Peace, Steve Tuck

bummer...if he had a PD, he was a lousy one...i took the plea bargain...I had a PD after the first attorney turned tail...the first attorney negotiated a plea bargain that was MUCH worse than what my PD got...I chose to do the pragmatic thing...The RIGHT thing could have landed me in prison and my wife in jail...because of her health, jail would kill her...Most juries are aquitting these days, but you never know...it depends on the lawyers and how well the defense attorney does in jury selection...

Yes, it is in Calif..As far as I know, they probably did the plea bargaining.. They could not afford a good attorney.. My friend did not have that many plants but he is an excellent grower. He knows how to get a pound out of a plant. I do'nt have all the details but I know he is now sitting in a prison..ff

My 2 cents
I was hoping someone would find a news article but I haven't. I saw this posted on another board but I just don't know anything about it. If anyone finds an article please post a link and I'll sure check it out. Thanks and Happy New Year! Maybe soon the news will pick up. I'm starting to feel that I'm trapped in the twilight zone. Not really, just kidding!

Maybe Kubby can verfiy this.. or Herbadoc..I would not be surprised if it happened. My friend and his g/f got raided. They have scrips but they are now in serving their time. 4yr for my friend and 4 months for the lady.. This sucks!ff

jose...
we can't find anything to verify this...we vaguely remember something about about the placer county sherriffs arresting people in rio linda...during our own legal problems in sacramento county, billy panzer was very helpful to us with advice...he's the rare "honest" attorney and very good...until recently, the Sacramento Bee ignored these types of arrests...I could find nothing in their archives.

Cannabis could SO help Afghanistan
It would be way better for them to be cultivating cannabis than opium. If only our government were enlightened enough to see that.Heroin addiction is going to become a much bigger problem in the future in Afghanistan. They are moving from just producing to also consuming because of the horrific mental health problems in the country and the general severe lack of psychiatric and pain medications.Really now, if any one country on Earth could benefit economically and medically from the spread of cannabis, it is Afghanistan.

CC Rocks!
Hats off to Larsen & the CC staff! Their mag is excellent & I'm glad it is sold where I live. I've often thought of subscribing but am very leery of doing so. Supposedly the government can't legally obtain their mailing list, but when has the law ever stopped big brother from doing anything? It's time to gather the party supplies & get stupid! I wish everyone a wonderful 2002 & may those who want to free the cannabis plant regain the momentum & the freedoms that were lost after 9/11!
