Even workaholic software engineers have to unplug and unwind once in a while. Which could explain why California's Silicon Valley was one of the top marijuana producers in California this year. A study released on Tuesday by California Attorney General Bill Lockyer showed that Santa Clara County, home of many of the high-tech companies that comprise Silicon Valley, ranked second among 23 California counties in terms of pot plants seized during the latest autumn harvest.
The study upset the conventional wisdom that most of the pot produced in the state came from Humboldt County near the Oregon border, where tall redwood trees provide cover that creates optimal growing conditions and hippie culture is more popular than the wired, 24/7 way of life. This year, during an aggressive series of raids during the peak harvest period, the state seized almost four times as many marijuana plants in Santa Clara County as in Humboldt. Tehama, another sparsely populated county to the north ranked No. 1 in pot plants seized. Another bastion of hippie culture, Santa Cruz County, ranked last. But state officials said the shift in where they were finding pot plants probably had more to do more with the sophistication of producers than with the local culture. "The fact that marijuana is grown in Santa Clara County doesn't mean that the product ends up being used there,'' said Michael Van Winkle, a spokesman for the Attorney General's office. He said the state was increasingly finding massive plots of marijuana plants that employed immigrant labor and appeared to be affiliated with big Mexican drug cartels. Newer plant hybrids are also more resistant to sun and can thrive without tree cover, he said. hardworking people
Yes E_Johnson, the great spirit of my 2nd-or-3rd-favorite state and former home! There is a January 1996 article in the Bay-area "Metro-Active" which I read early in my internet addiction. I don't think it was intended to be the greatest piece ever written about marijuana, just a journalist's attempt to interview a few pot smokers and a few government and anti-drug types. Nothing I have ever read on the subject has grabbed me quite as much as this.

It's hardworking white people too darnit
Oh the shameless race-baiting that goes on in this cultural war.Immigrant labor, a California hot button issue.Immigrant labor is what put California agriculture on the map and made the California economy capable of supporting a big modern state.Hardworking people need to relieve stress. They need anti-inflammatories for both their brain and body. Whether you're a strawberry picker or a code warrior, a hard day's work is a hard day's work.California has always been filled with hardworking people and it is no surprise that you find marijuana being grown by people noted for hard work in an area noted for hard work.Is it better to head for Happy Hour, have a few belts and drive home?
