A city firefighter who was growing potent pot in his basement to combat depression and physical pain was fined $2,500 yesterday in provincial court.
Dean Troyer, 41, was also put on probation for six months after pleading guilty to simple marijuana possession and cultivating marijuana. His wife Marie had similar charges dropped yesterday. The 17-year veteran smoke eater had been very vocal about his marijuana use for medicinal purposes at an earlier court appearance and had compared his hydroponic operation to his home wine-brewing.

Lacy & Roxie
I must respectfully beg to differ concerning your viewpoints concerning marijuana. Apparently you have succumbed to the expert brainwash treatment from the governments warlords. Why do I say this?Well for one thing, the fact that you refer to marijuana as "drugs",is a dead giveaway. For your edification, there is a huge difference between marijuana, and, let's say heroin,or cocaine. What are you talking about when you use the term "drugs"?I suspect you are refering to what you have been endoctrinated into using this this term to mean,"illegal drugs". I would suggest that you avoid narrowing you mind taking what the anti-drug empire tells you,as truthful. You should think for yourself. There is far more to all this than you know. I would welcome you to join in and discuss your views here. You will find that many of us are quite open minded. And please, just because someone duzzint spell sew good, duz nawt meen thay have blown out thair mind awn "drugs".................dddd

Read ... and Think For Yourself
Roxie 17 Mocaby writes:you ARE crazy!!!!!!!! You people ARE crazy!!!!!!!!! Now, now. You're not going to convince anyone of anything calling them names. see: Attacking the Person (argumentum ad hominem)http://www.primenet.com/~byoder/attack.htmThen again, calling names may make you feel better. Sometimes it is good to vent, I think. You aren't depressed. What is there to be depressed about??? You are still alive. Depression is all in your mind.see: http://www.depression.com/http://www.depressionwellness.net/dsm.htmhttp://www.ask.com/main/askjeeves.asp?ask=what+is+depression%3F&origin=0&site_name=Jeeves&metasearch=yes&ads= etc. We're glad that you do not appear to be depressed, Roxie. I don't think you speak for everyone else, though.Marijuana, as comment#4 said, is NOT good for you in any way.Cannabis (the traditional English word for marijuana) had been used as medicine for about 5,000 years. ("2737 BC: Cannabis referred to as a "superior" herb in the world's first medical text, or pharmacopoeia, Shen Nung's Pen Ts'ao, in China")seeA Chronology of Cannabishttp://www.paston.co.uk/users/webbooks/chronol.html also:http://www.google.com/search?q=marijuana+treats+depressionhttp://www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/Library/studies/nc/nc1a.htm etc.In 1621 English Clergyman Robert Burton said that cannabis is useful in treating depression in The Anatomy of Melancholy...http://www.google.com/search?q=cannabis+anatomy+of+melancholyetc.It's all in your mind!!!! That's where mental things (like clinical depression) are said to reside, yes...You are not depressed, you just want to take a drug and tell everyone it is legal so you make them think you are still a good person. How would you know these things? You don't know, because you can't speak for another person, Roxie. People aren't making up that stuff about marijuana being used to successfully treat depression ... unless you want to tell me that they somehow fooled Clergyman Robert Burton back in 1621. You can't stop people from discovering the truth about cannabis, no matter what your politics are, or no matter what the nice policeman taught you in DARE class ... the truth is the truth.Well, you were a good person until you started doing drugs. And you still are a good person until you start doing drugs.Sorry, Roxie: people aren't good because they don't use certain drugs, and not good simply because they use them. Things are not that simple. The Bible, for example, never tells us that using drugs is wrong or bad. It tells us that drunkenness is wrong (just like fornication is wrong, Roxie), but the Bible never says that using marijuana is bad, wrong, a sin, or anything like that. Marijuana (cannabis) was a drug that doctors used often, before 1937. Tell me, Roxie, was it wrong to use cannabis before 1937? If cannabis is the only drug that will work to keep you alive now, are you wrong to use it now? The US Federal Government grown cannabis in Mississippi, and sends it to certain glaucoma patients. The US government has done this for the last 20 years. Are those glaucoma patients not "good" people because they use (their legal) marijuana? Why should other people be denied what they find useful? Why should Americans now be thrown in jail for using a medicine they could before 1937? Or that people can buy and use in Holland, right now? What will kids think of you?? That the adult is a) trying to be honest, and b) that things aren't always so simple that children can instantly understand them (that why kids go to school, Roxie), that c) children can't always do things adults can do (like drink liquor for example), and d) that in free countries, the people can make and change laws. They will think it is okay to do drugs and we're trying to teach them not to.Nah, you're just parroting the propaganda fed to you. Even if you were correct, that would still be no reason to imprison adults who use marijuana responsibly. It is legal for adults to get cars and go doen the road at 55 miles an hour. It is not ok for kids. Life is complicated, sometimes. But we don't throw adults in jail for driving cars, just so that "kids" won't be confused about driving. You're pushing the statement that killing yourself is an okay thing to do, but it's not.Nothing about "killing" oneself. Quite the opposite. The person is inquiring about medicines, which is generally a sign that the person wants to get better and live. You and Lacy sound like you're intelligent, but need to read more. I suggest reading some of the history on this site, if your parents don't have this site blocked, that is ... :-)The Schaffer Library of Drug Policyhttp://www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/index.htmthis is a great paper to start with there:Themes in Chemical Prohibition (NIDA)http://www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/History/ticp.htmlNo, using marijuana isn't a sin. But people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. The truth is incontrovertible. Panic may resent it; ignorance may deride it; malice may distort it; but there it is.-- Winston Churchill Make the most of the Indian Hemp Seed and sow it everywhere. -- George Washington

are you crazy???
I would like to know what is wrong with you people, that you think smoking marijuana is a GOOD thing!!!!! Marijuana doesn't do anything for you except kill your brain cells!!! (If you have any in the first place!!!!) Look at Comment #3 by Rhonda Clayton, she can't even spell anymore!!!! Tell me there's nothing wrong with that. Why would you want to ask stupid questions such as, "..is marijuana good for you...?" NO!! It's not. Don't lower yourselves and others into doing drugs, no matter what anyone says about medical marijuana.
