A Toledo police vice-narcotics officer's undercover drug buy went dramatically wrong yesterday in a parking lot at an east side public housing complex, police said.During a struggle with the suspect inside the officer's unmarked car, the plainclothes officer lost control of his handgun, and the gun discharged once. The bullet went through the rear seat, investigators said. Then a civilian police intern accompanying the officer began kicking the suspect while trying to help subdue him, police said.
And finally a crowd of residents protested what they said was blatant police brutality.``If nothing else, there was a huge breach of common sense,'' police Chief Mike Navarre said last night. ``If this is the way business is done in the vice squad, I've got a serious problem.''Officer Sean Jones, who was hired in 1995, and the suspect, Andrea Robinson, 23, who gave an address of 819 Ontario St., were treated in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center for injuries sustained during the struggle. The officer had multiple bite marks and swelling along his right arm, according to police. Mr. Robinson, according to witnesses, had head and neck injuries.Click the link for the whole story. The drug war cause more harm then drug abuse itself does!
