Authorities uprooted more than 46,000 marijuana plants from a remote canyon on Palomar Mountain, San Diego County Sheriff's officials said Thursday. The "grow site" was the largest in the 22-year history of the county's eradication efforts. No arrests have been made. Several people fled the area when sheriff's deputies arrived at the site Monday. Officers were unable to give chase over the rugged terrain. Laborers had been tending the site since early May and the plants had reached an average height of three feet, said Sheriff's Lt. Bill Baxter.
The marijuana was growing in terraced rows under cover of the area's thick trees and brush and watered with gravity-fed drip lines. The terrain, about 75 miles northeast of San Diego, was so rough that it took three hours for officers to reach the area, Baxter said. The county's Marijuana Eradication Team, comprised of city, county and federal officers, discovered the site after a police helicopter spotted a smaller marijuana patch nearby.Over 18,000 plants were removed July 9 and another 28,000 plants were removed on July 11. They were taken to a secure location and will be burned later in the year, Baxter said. The eradication team removed 147,000 plants from 300 locations last year. About 90,000 plants have been uprooted so far this year.Complete Title: Sheriff's Deputies Uproot More Than 46,000 Marijuana PlantsSource: Press-Enterprise (CA)Published: Thursday, July 12, 2001 Copyright: 2001 The Press-Enterprise CompanyContact: letters pe.comComments: feedback inlandempireonline.comWebsite: http://www.inlandempireonline.com/Related Articles:A Bumper Year for Pot http://cannabisnews.com/news/thread10006.shtmlState Pot Farms on Move http://cannabisnews.com/news/thread9967.shtmlPatton of Pot - 60 Minutes IIhttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread8656.shtml

helicopters
"discovered the site after a police helicopter spotted a smaller marijuana patch nearby"sure , no one blew the whistle on them.. like rivals. I mean come on, even with the serial "bust of the century" finds, the grass is bountiful in California. So , who actually is profiting from these raids?

Silly boys
Lol! same old thing they (the police) dig it up, someone else (MJ farmer) plants it, dig it up, plant it, and so the cycle contiues...... Yeah MJ and hemp are very nutrian hungry things legalisation would meen that area sutable could be pointed out rather than just planting anywhere that you can at the moment and risking damage.4 JaYou cant make hash tea with water, THC is not water soluble you have to add something to the mix like honey. The farmers will just move somewhere else.....As much as I like mj, Marijuana farms sometimes mess up the environment and natural course of streams, rivers, etc. legality would help the environment....jaDoes anyone know how to make tea from bud? I want to learn how? How much mj do I need to make a cup or two of tea? Is it hard to make? I looked forever and i couldnt find anything. Any links? Thanks
