Marijuana Not So Dangerous to Driving, Study Finds

It's good to read an accurate report!
Source: CNN Interactive

WASHINGTON People who smoke moderate amounts of marijuana are not much more dangerous behind the wheel than completely sober drivers, Canadian researchers said Wednesday.
They said the hazards of smoking marijuana had been overrated, and while the drug should not be legalized, drivers who smoke it and drive should not be demonized. I hope we see more good reports like this one!Click on the link for the complete article!

Driving Stoned
Refering to Comment#3 by our friend . Well Lance seems to me you prefer drunk drivers than stoned drivers. Estimated deaths in year 2000 attributed to TOBACO: 400,000 ; ALCOHOL: 110,000 ; PRESCRIPTION DRUGS: 100,000 ; SUICIDE: 30,000 ; MURDER: 15,000 ; OVER-THE-COUNTER PAINKILLERS: 7,600 ; MARIJUANA: 0. Lance please get the facts straight, unlike yourself. And I'd bet that the marijuana influenced drivers you were stereotyping were also drunk too, but Lance believed that we are stupid and un-educated. Oh yah! here's another idea why Lance finds marijuana users on their hoods, is because these marijuana influenced drivers are drug dealers with pounds of marijuana trying to evade our Peace, Loving, and Proud officer Lance, who was trying to apprehend. OH!! Please, those people who have poorly judged marijuana as giving false cues, I strongly disagree that marijuana would give false cues. Neuron cells fire a chemical charge that release Neurotransmiters, and what lance is saying that marijuana makes people halucinate because of these false cues, I don't think so pal. Marijuana increases the stimuli of neurons in the brain. And the future comments about my comment, before you give your $.02 worth please do the test yourself on marijuana giving false cues to the instead of relying on books. These books that Lance read, must be books that say people are guilty till proven innocent. I'm glad that I don't have to stoop down to awful comments of hate!. Seriously Lance, hate will consume you. Why drive? When you can fly

cannabis/driving studies
...ANYONE without an agenda knows that if it kills pain and stimulates false cues to the c.n.s. to release pleasure neurotransmitters, the driving marijuana user is a threat to others. Is that what they teach cops to say in narc-school? These all must be researchers with an "agenda", too...Cannabis/Driving StudiesUK: Cannabis May Make You A Safer Driver (2000) http://www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v00/n1161/a02.html University Of Toronto Study Shows Marijuana Not A Factor In Driving Accidents (1999)http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases\1999\03\990325110700.htm Australia: Cannabis Crash Risk Less: Study (1998) http://www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v98/n945/a08.html Australia: Study Goes to Pot (1998) http://www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v98/n947/a06.htmlYeah, it is understandable that people who make money from seizing (read: stealing) people's cars & cash for small amounts of marijuana would have a vested interest in pumping up the extreme dangers of marijuana. Makes it easier to justify theft.

heh

you are legally allowed to drive under the influence of alcohol to a certain degree.I got really stoned once before I needed to go pay bills and though it was unintentional, I figured I'll just pay attention to myself, and observe how it goes. I havd 5 people try to pull out in front of me that day, and I noticed each one of them. It's like I was driving with a bunch of idiots around me. I did fine, and think that if not for my highly observant state, I might have actually hit one of those inconsiderate people.Ever see drunks play hackey sack? How about stoned people? I honestly don't feel that marijuana inhibits ones coordination negatively. If anything it makes you more observant...However, some people just don't do well stoned, just as some people get really drunk with one light beer. To each his own.You probably shouldn't drive stoned, but personnaly, I'd rather deal with stoned paranoyed safe slow drivers than the assholes out there high on caffiene and shooting at someone that just cut them off.Nuff said, it's 4:20, be kind to one another!

I think that weed does impair driving, When I drive after smoking a bowl of weed, i start thinking about other things and pay much less attention to the road. I have almost been in a few accidents just because of my weed problem.

marijuana and driving

What a ridiculous premise. The 'not as bad' crap is so meaningless when it is your kid caught on the hood of morons who smoke and drive. I have arrested over three hundred marijuana influenced drivers. All admitted to having a 'buzz,' as well as being slower to react, etc. ANYONE without an agenda knows that if it kills pain and stimulates false cues to the c.n.s. to release pleasure neurotransmitters, the driving marijuana user is a threat to others. If you stuck with use at home and quit making normalcy arguments for drivers that we all know are ridiculous you would be further ahead.

Driving article...

Thanks for your comment fireraven!I think that when the word legalize is used it puts cannabis in the same category as aspirin and it is a psycho-active drug and it shouldn't be used while driving but I think it means alcohol is the bad one of the two, but I could be wrong! I'll check out your link! Thanks for posting it! Peace, FoM!

Driving article...

I find it odd that they would say that marijuana should not be legalized, while at the same time saying that's not at all very dangerous to drive while intoxicated.I treat this issue with the same regard as I would any other substance that may impare driving abilities. You shouldn't drive drunk, nor should you drive stoned. Sober is the best way to drive.I am a hemp activist, and I stand strong on many issues, especially this one. I smoke marijuana, but I would never drive while I'm stoned. I feel it's as bad as driving drunk. Either way, you're jaded, and there's no reason to endanger your life or the lives of others.
