Legalizing Illegal Substances Gets Mixed Reviews!

views from a teen forum!

Local teens believe the national war on drugs is a bust - no ifs, ands or marijuana cigarette butts. However, they aren't sure what anti-drug strategies society should employ. Would decriminalizing illegal drugs such as marijuana, crack, powder cocaine or heroin reduce drug-related crimes or addictions?
Would fewer people die, and could more people be weaned off drugs if they got their fix at the doctor's office instead of from a guy in a dark alley?"I always thought that was part of the drug world - to have enough guts to go to the alley and meet that guy," says North Allegheny High School senior Matthew Griffin, 17. "A lot of kids at my school wouldn't have the guts. The fear of being killed or being caught keeps a lot of people from going."Read what the children have to say about the drug war!

legalize EVERYTHING
I think everything should be legal, People that want to do drugs will do drugs regardless if it is legal or not. Legalization would make drugs more accesable to the public, but obviously the people buying the drugs have found them before and used them before. What kind of morom says" well there could be poison or something like that in it." Are you dumb? With legalization would also come restrictions like THC levels and materials used. Drugs would be legal to try and get rid of the black market, instead of just to start death and pandamoniam.

keeping it legal
I think that weed should not be illegal because if we were allowed to smoke it then we would not try and hide it or something.

Legalize drugs
i believe some drugs should most definately be legalized. i mean, alcohol is legal but yet some people feel the need to abuse that just as much as any other drug such as cocaine or heroine. besides, it costs our government way too much money to regulate drug use. also, if drugs were legalized, the crime rate would drop miracullously because the drug lords wouldn't have drug "territory" to fight and kill over.

the war on drugs
I believe that drugs should not be legalized because we live in a society where people are pressured into trying things they normally wouldn't. We have grown men and women going to playgrounds trying to sell drugs to elementary school kids while they are having fun with their friends. If drugs were legalized what would there be to prevent those little kids from trying things they know nothing about? What happens when a child tries something for the first time and it has poison or something like that in it? They cannot prosecute anybody because there was no crime committed. It would be sending a wrong message to grade school kids. They see their big brother or sister doing it and they want to try it to see what is it like. I believe that is what would happen if drugs were legalized. It is not an impossible scenerio either. Stuff like that is going on now and drugs are illegal. It would be so much worse if drugs were to be legalized.
